Constructed Discussion

Postby Chewbaca X on Fri Aug 31, 2007 8:21 pm

Here we have the Constructed Magic thread. If you want to talk about how insanely diverse Standard is, or explain the way to survive past turn 4 in Vintage, or ask which build of a certain deck has a better matchup against Affinity, this is the place to do it.

Okay, I'll start here too. What cards from Lorwyn do you guys think will take off in Constructed? Everyone knows that Gaddock Teeg and Thoughtseize are ones to watch, but what about the other stuff? Planeswalkers? Incarnations? Commons? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

All right, I'll start here too. I think Fathom Trawl is going to be the new hotness blue card-drawing spell. It gets you one less card than Tidings for one less mana, but you're guaranteed to blow through any land clumps in your way. If you could play Concentrate and "pay 1: don't get any more lands" I think you would. Hell I would. What else do you think will show up in Constructed?

help with making a countryside crusher deck

Postby wolfstalker on Wed Feb 06, 2008 1:27 pm

Alright im just gonna list names of cards that i think would be useful in the Countryside Crusher deck that i decided to build after listening to the episode. As you guys know im fairly new and im gonna just list some cards and ask for input on how to put the deck together. I haven't gone through all of the many cards yet. Feel free to throw out ideas, no matter how crazy they are. I want to make this deck good and be able to do well with it at some extended tournaments =)

-Sensei's Divining Top
-seismic assult
-life from the loam
-countryside crusher
-tarmogoyf
-troll ascetic
-tarravore
-birds of paradise
-molten rain
-blood moon
-magus of the moon
-crucible of worlds
-devastating dreams
-hull breach
-pyroclasm
-nostalgis dreams
-eternal witness
-wall of roots
-akki raider
-akki avalanchers
-akki blizzard-herder
-cartographer
-centaur rootcaster
-burning sands
-brutal deciever
-civic wayfinder
-boom/bust
-cosmic larva
-deep reconnaissance
-explosive vegetation
-fertile ground
-harrow
-magma burst
-mana seism
-molten rain
-Myojin of Infinite Rage
-Spinerock Knoll
-Mosswort Bridge
-Nantuko Cultivator
-nature's will
-obliterate
-shard volley
-greater gargadon
-arc blade
-shivan sand mage
-skizzik surger
-riddle of lightning
-cyclical evolution
-rift elemental
-birds of paradise
-civic wayfinder
-wanderer's twig
-some type of artifact or enchantment destruction? (seal of primordium maybe? or Spring Cleaning?)
-nath's elite?
-lashout, tarfire, or some other burn spells?
-scapeshift (maybe i should get somethin to steal lands and then sac em)

sorry for all the cards, im just throwin out ideas. i havent really looked into any special lands yet. (except possibly a Grove of Burnwillows, just cuz i have one) If you have any suggestions on what to put in, what not to put in, other cards not listed that i should have, or anything else, please tell me. I think once i get crucible of worlds out, then i need alot of things to sac lands to give countryside crusher more +1/+1 counters. All input is appreciated, and thanks in advance.

P.S. i have a Garruk that i was gonna use to help trade to get some cards for this deck, would it be better to get some more and put garruk in my deck? planeswalker is another card type that would boost goyf if in graveyard and i could definitely use the untapping of lands since i usually wont have many lands in play at a time cuz of all the saccing and stuff. i dont know, but then again it's something that can help me get other cards i need if i trade it.

I want this to be a really good deck that i can do decent with at some bigger tournaments. I am willing to invest the time and some money in this deck. so if you have any really good ideas, even though they might be hard to get, just say them. (I'm trying to get a playset of tarmogoyfs for cryin out loud, lol) Thanks a bunch =)

Any special reason you're doing Seal of Fire instead of something like Sudden Shock or Incinerate?

it's just curve issues, being able to play turn one wild nacatl and turn 2 isamaru and seal puts pressure on fast. also seal sneaks under spell snare and with jitte i like to have all the mana free that i can.

so i was thinking of a r/u elemental deck with the standard harbinger, braids, soul stoke (to throw the big ones out fast), and then blue for the counter side against all the removal that is in standard right now. Ive tried r/g elemental and there was removal after removal that i couldn't really deal with. so any inight would be great.

I've been working on a deck for some time and was hoping someone could help me with a low budget way to make it work. The current concept is to eliminate whatever combo pieces or real threats that I can before they are played. The current deck list is:
Meddling Mage x4
Voidstone Gargoyle x4
Serra Avenger x4
Wall of Denial x4
Extract x4
Counterspell x4
Mana Leak x4
Oblivion Ring x4
Pithing Needle x4
Runed Halo x2
Land x22
The main problem that I am having is speed. I usually get a quick start with a first turn Extract, second turn Meddling Mage, but I am unable to keep up with most decks, and my only win condition is Serra Avenger. I have thought about Ethersworn Canonist and Rule of Law, but if anyone has some other ideas or suggestions, they would be appreciated.

Curious if anyone has sideboard or main deck advice for this deck. The goal is to abuse the synergy between sword of the meek and thopter foundry, and then lock out the opponent with time sieve. Present weaknesses are artifact removal and extirpate. PS. this deck is stupidly good in multiplayer

Roflthopter (extended):
4 sword of the meek
4 thopter foundry
4 time sieve

4 ponder
4 serum visions
4 dimir infiltrator
4 muddle the mixture

4 mana leak
4 remand

Mana base is something akin to
3 seat of the synod
4 vault of whispers
1 Academy Ruins
4 River of Tears
1 Sunken Ruins
1 watery grave
1 Swamp
9 Island

Current sideboard options being considered are boomerang (to get rid of annoying pest cards like night of soul's betrayal long enough to take infinite turns), gigiadrowse (to buy a counterspell-free turn), and cranial extraction (because I hate extirpate so very much)
