Episode 105 - Alternative Lifestyles

Postby Chewbaca X on Wed Nov 11, 2009 8:54 pm

Because winning by knocking your opponent's life total down to zero is SO last season, we're having a fire sale on all the other nifty ways to win. Alternate win conditions for all! We've got Epic Struggles, Darksteel Reactors, Chance Encounters, and Poison. For those workaholics out there, we have a few Coalition Victories, Helix Pinnacles, and even one Barren Glory in the back corner. None of these float your boat (in your Mana Pool, of course)? Then keep browsing, we've got lots more.

And while we're at it, we're also having a fire sale on alternate ways to lose! We've got Pacts, Phage (blinking sold separately), several flavors of Lich, and three types of Final Fortune. If you're sick of Test of Endurance, we can turn your life gain into a loss with Transcendence! And if you act now, we'll even throw in two ways to force the game into a draw, just to thoroughly annoy your opponents. Operators are standing by!

There is also a fifth win condition. Technically, you win the game if your opponent concedes. In a duel this is common, but what about in a multiplayer game? In multiplayer, the trick lies in how does one get all your opponents to concede at the same time? There are several strategies and all of them are degenerate/evil. Still, I have a few decks designed to win mainly using this fifth win condition. Some methods to annoy your opponents enough to quit are: stasis, landlock, uber lifegain, discard, wall/protection, encore, counterspell, mindslaver, platinum angel with shroud, and many more. None of these strategies in themselves help you win the game, but rather they make playing against them so not fun that most players will quit so they can start a new more enjoyable game. It is both cruel and wrong, but sometimes you just want to win.

I am also going to post this in the main forems too. I want to hear other players' ideas about what decks or strategies are so cruel that they cuase players to quit a game. I admit I have a little evil streak and sometimes I find my opponents' frustration very amussing. I'm a JERK :!:

i use helix pinnacle to win in a deck that makes infi mana with cloudpost/vesuva and magus of the candelabra. so, not totally useless. any sort of x deck can work.

I think the general issue with it is that if you can make a mana loop, you might as well use a fireball and not have to wait. At least we've got Rosheen Meanderer for all future X decks.
