-Sorry this is a long response, but this episode had a lot of stuff that I wanted to comment on.
-The new Quest enchantments are interesting as support cards. Not sure if it’d be a good idea to run a lot of these in a single deck.
-Based on the comment that the Quest enchantments are only sent to the graveyard, it looks like they had this in mind when they printed Open the Vaults. But like I said, I don’t see a deck being built around these.
-I can’t wait to play with Luminarch Ascension, especially in multiplayer. Phew…
-I already know how to play Iona. Use Emeria, the white rare land that tosses creatures from your graveyard to play when you have 7 lands. Nice.
-I’m very excited about the Ally creature type. Hooray for cards that manipulate creature type (Conspiracy!). That will be bad-ass.
-Halo Hunter looks pretty cool. Even just being a 6-power with intimidate for 5, I could toss a copy or two into my big black nasty deck.
-I really thought you were going to go into a more R-rated thing with the “circle, circle, dot, dot…” and I thought you were going to follow that up with “*&%# you, *$&#@!” I can imagine the Baneslayer doing that.
-Landfall boosts are interesting, especially with all the avenues for playing multiple lands a turn. And it’s pretty helpful if you get mana-flooded. “Crap, another land. Oh wait, at least it pumps up this guy!” And the Eternity Vessel looks fun. Mwahaha. I mean, you say you’d despise it if the opponent has it with 20 counters on it, but think of it in my lifegain deck. “Oh, I’ll play this on turn 6, when I have 37 life! Hah!” And it uses charge counters, which can be manipulated…
-Wow, the Bloodghast looks really good! And as an object to be sacrificed, you could get that effect at least once a turn, then play a land, and attack.
-Ob Nixilis goes “Nom nom nom” on the opponent and gets fatter. Just had to say it…
-Haha, I just imagined Brian beating up a Wizards employee to steal the giant Arid Mesa so he can put it in a deck. “Gee, Brian, I wonder what your next card is. Maybe it’s the Arid Mesa that’s three feet wide!”
-The Trap cards are interesting. Not a big fan of the counterspell or LD, but the bounce one is great! I’m definitely the Timmy that Chewie was talking about in his discussion of Mindbreak Trap.
-Lullmage Mentor is nasty. I’m glad to finally get some feedback on my Intruder Alarm/Lullmage Mentor combo, since none of you responded to it a while back.
-I hate that the Goblin Guide is a rare. I just know I’ll get a bunch of these crappy cards in draft packs while my opponents get the rare painlands. But the Goblin Instigator looks awesome! Turn 2 play it, turn three Goblin Chieftain, attack with a 2/2 double-striker. Nice. And I definitely did not notice the lack of “combat” distinction.
-The Scythe Tiger also could die to a Pyroclasm or something like that.
-Elemental Appeal is alright. It’s a Blistering Firecat in sorcery form. My only problem with these types of cards is first/double strike. Like at the M10 release that I went to with Chewie, where his poor Ball Lightning couldn’t get played while I had several first strikers.
-Chandra Ablaze is not really good, for my playing style at least. In a draft, I don’t see her being that great, unlike her previous version.
-The new Specter has a name that keeps reminding me of the Nazgul from LotR. And it’s even on a flying creature like the Nazgul. That’s all.
