Re-post, edited, from the Introduce Yourself thread in the M:tG subforum:

Hey, I'm Mike. I'm from North Carolina, and I'm 23 at the time of this post. I learned how to play Magic around 1995 (near Ice Age), but didn't really start buying cards until 3 or 4 years later (Tempest and Urza's blocks). My first prerelease event was Urza's Legacy (I still play with the Beast of Burden promo), and I've only missed a handful since then.

I played pretty regularly with my friends in high school, but really hit my stride when I got to college. It started when I inadvertently set in motion a cascade of events that ended up pulling quite a number of people into the game, either for the first time or out of retirement. There were a lot of awesome people in that playgroup, and we all made some great friends there (I was the best man at a wedding!). I got my BS in 2006 (Pure Mathematics and Latin Language and Literature) and moved on to graduate school, where I'm now most of the way through a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering. Luckily, I ended up literally across the street from a friend of a friend, who also plays, and we were able to work up a small group that we've mostly been able to keep up rather well all this time.

I'm pretty well-versed in other geeky/nerdy/dorky interests, though I know I really don't read as much stuff or play as many games as often as I used to. The recent year has seen me become quite a news junkie.

You'll probably notice that I rarely, if ever, write an article about whatever may be "hot" in Standard or Extended. That's chiefly because if someone has already thought of it and people are already working on perfecting it, then I'm just not interested in spending the time or money to play or test it. Also, it's to my advantage if the opponent can't predict what I'm doing just from the first two turns (and even better if they end up getting misled).

My name is Chewie Slate (as far as you know). I'm in North Carolina. I'm 26 years old at the time of this post. I started playing Magic back when Homelands came out. I stopped playing Magic right about the time Weatherlight was released. I kept all my cards though.

In college, I started playing Magic again. This is all because of Mike, who introduced himself above. So right about the time Onslaught was released, I got back into Magic. And I've been in it pretty hard ever since. We played multiplayer, round table, chaos-style Magic almost exclusively, although we did manage to round up a draft here or there, and we dabbled a teeny bit in Emperor. Since graduating college (BA in Physics and Astronomy, baby!), my playgroup has drifted apart, but I'm determined to have a casual multiplayer group again! If you live anywhere near Kernersville NC, let me know!

I've been the Content Editor for Cardshark for...wow. Must be about 3 years now? Is that right? And now I've started The Mana Pool podcast. I'm such a dork, and I love it.

On the non-dork side of life, I've been with my beautiful girlfriend for right around 6 years. I build DVRs for security systems for a day job. I drive a Jeep Liberty. I play PS2, Wii, and my new Xbox 360. And I'm a Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers fan. I guess that about covers it. How about the rest of you?

Hi.
My name is Piro (Pier-oh, not pyro)
I started playing magic around 7th edition, then kinda dropped off soon later. I started again at the Mirrodin block, stayed to Champions of Kamigawa, then came back when 10th edition / Future Sight came out.
I am currently attempting to become a level 1 judge.
Oh, and I'm also a Ninja.

Postby Dragon of Law on Sat Dec 15, 2007 10:33 am

Hello to all,

My name is Brian Baker. I'm currently a law student at Elon University School of Law in Greensboro, North Carolina, after taking a few years "off" from school in the workforce. I just got married a little over 5 months ago as of the time of this post. Fellow Magic dorks Chewie, Mike, and Dirk from the podcasts were in attendance; if they were not, some impressive look-alikes showed up and ate my food. :D

I started playing Magic in college, when I was taught by a player who wanted others to play with, Nate. He's a good guy, and he had a pretty good basic knowledge of the game, but didn't have that much rules know-how. I only really got into it when Mike (introduced above) came to live with us in the dorm and taught me how to really play, along with awakening some dormant players like Chewie. This was around Judgement/Onslaught.

I'm a Johnny/Spike/Timmy, in that order. I love love LOVE building decks that do crazy things, playing them until they get good and semi-consistent, and then taking them apart to build new decks. As a result, I never have more than 12-15 decks at a time, as I only keep a few around for any length of time. I'm one of the more Spike-ish players in our play group, having taken an immediate liking to prereleases and sealed formats in general, gradually going to more and more PTQs and such during the course of my Magic education and experience. I'm a happy man if I can draft occassionally, but every now and then (usually States, if nothing else) I try on my constructed shoes.

I occassionally write articles for Cardshark and have passed the 20 article mark, which is somewhat impressive considering every time I say that I'm going to buckle down and write consistently I experience a life-changing event that sets me back for weeks. Now that I am done with semester final exams, expect to see something soon.

That's all (and probably more) than you ever wanted or needed to know about me. I hope that everyone is enjoying the podcasts, and stay tuned for more upcoming enstallments.

Introduction

Postby Dirkadirka on Sat Dec 15, 2007 1:20 pm

Hey all, my name is Dirk and I am one of the special guests on the Mana Pool. I have been a magic player since Onslaught and Legions. My many desks include Elves, Birds, Saviors, Words, and the X-deck. I enjoy going to prereleases and most of all multiplayer games. Hope you all enjoy the Mana Pool and hope to hear more from you all.

My name is Tim. I am currently 16 years old and i live in a small town in Ohio called New Knoxville.

I just started playing Magic this past November when i me and two friends went into a store and saw all these Magic cards. We had heard a bit about it, but not much and we decided to play it that night at the sleepover. I bought the arcanis's guile 10th edition deck one friend got the white (cho-manno's resolve?) and the red(dont remember wat its called). That night we watched a movie and got onli9ne to get the rules when we printed out like twenty-some pages of rules. we read the rules that night and a day or so later we finally started playing. we had alot of things wrong and over time we got clear on all the rules. I am now into Magic alot and i want to get really good at it (lots of tourneys, limited and stand constructed).

The thing that is hard is that my friends arent into it as much as me. And in a small town i need to drive like at least a half hour to FN, which will be better once i finally get my license in about a month. i dont really have many people to play with and when i do play with my friends, i have alot more good cards then them and usually i win. It's also hard because of my limted money and that i dont have my license yet. Not to mention that my whole family thinks the game is stupid and not worth my time and money. Besides these 2 friends everyone else thinks these card games are stupid and lame so i dont bring it up that i play. The only thing we have within like 1 1/2 to 2 hours away is FNM and an occasional tournament of some sort. well enough of that blabber. Im sure you all have been through this kind of thing before at some time or another.

I played in my first tournament at the end of December. It was a Lorwyn booster draft and it was sweet!

Alright about me. i run cross country and track. I like to swim, run, bike, bowl, play Magic =), play video games, snowmobile, snowboard, learn guitar and drumset, hang out, and watch movies, among other things.

(i had originally posted here but i deleted it and moved it to the Magic interoduce section, but yeah im posting it here too)

Stalker- New Knoxville? I used to live in Ohio, in a small town named Hudson. It's in Summit County in the Northeastern part of the state. I haven't lived there since I was 14 (which gets further away all the time  ) so I can't claim to know where New Knoxville is. Still, nice to "see" another player from the big O. Hope you have better luck finding places to play, and thanks for tuning into the show!

Hey guys I just stumbled upon your pod cast last week my name is Chris and I live in Winston Salem NC I have been a fan of magic since i was in high school, I guess about 10 years ago I bought my first deck and after a long hiatus I started back up during Time Spiral block. My first Draft Tournament was at Silver Bullet in Winston for Future Sight. Since I have nowhere here in Winston to play and don't really know anyone who plays I have spent most of my time playing decks that i build myself and just play both sides. Besides that I just play Xbox 360 and work and go to school so yeah thats me. So in closing great show guys and i can't wait to hear more from you and thanks for having a noob around to make me feel a little better about not knowing as much as some of the kids i used to play tournaments with. Squatos the shiz.
