1. How did you first hear about the show? mtgcast

2. Do you listen to the music in each episode? nope

3. Should we pick a theme and go with it or keep having different music? either way works

4. How is the sound quality of the show, both the music and the actual show? it is about as good as can be expected

5. Is the current episode length (60-75 minutes or so) good, too long, or too short? an hour to 2 is acceptable, i would not want to exceed 3, that can get alittle taxing

6. What about splitting longer episodes into two parts like Episode 27? Is this a good idea or a bad one? personally i would suggest spliting the topics not that shows.

7. Would “quickie” episodes that are 20-40 minutes in length be a good idea? as filler on quicker topics, but generally not really.

8. What about number of hosts per show? If there’s only two of us, is it worth listening to? What about when we’re all there – do we seem to get in each other’s way? the number of hosts seems fine, as long as you don't have say more then 6 its not really cornfusing.

9. How do you feel about the length, quality, and depth of the new set preview episodes? Do we spend too long on individual cards? Do you feel like two episodes a week during preview weeks are too much? this seems fine as it is.

10. Would you be interested in the development of another fun theme deck, like the Clash deck? Oh yeah, we’ll be touching that one again soon too. We never actually did the Morningtide follow-up, and it bothers me professionally. i love theme decks, and deck ideas, if you wish to follow up on something, that do it.

11. We once picked a handful of fun rares from a set and went over them. Should we keep doing this? If so, just with new sets or should we go back to old ones too? it would be interesting if you picked fun new rares and took fun old rares that are semi related and have synergy with them.

12. We’ve done a couple of Magic Etiquette segments (what to do about that guy with just one deck, and when are proxies okay). What did you think of that? Should we keep doing etiquette questions when they occur to us, or is this just too silly? would be interesting as a once every 3-9 months updated sub section of the mana pool normal section.

13. We’ve done a few tournament reports too (Prereleases, Launch Parties, FNM). Does that interest you at all, or should we skip those? i love pre-release coverage so i know how good it is, so the same goes with launch, i don't really do fnm, so it does not personally attract to me.

14. We’ve done some episodes that involve the various philosophies of the game that go beyond just playing (Timmy, Johnny, Spike; Aggro, Combo, Control). Does this sort of thing interest you at all, or should we skip those? fine by me

15. We haven’t focused terribly much on the flavor of the game (flavor text, characters in the storyline, the world each set has built). Should we? i love that kind of stuff but lack the funds to get the books.

16. Episode 15 was the Multiplayer Free-For-All Extravaganza, which means we played lots of games of multiplayer Magic, took notes, and told you all about them. Should we do more things like that in the future? If so, should we limit it to simple multiplayer, or should we branch out into things like Winston Draft picks and games, booster draft picks and games, and new formats or variants? the multiplayer episodes you did more recently was quite interesting and i used some of the cards mentioned and put the into a deck.

17. We’ve done several episodes involving tips for new players. Should we keep this up? If so, should we go more into strategy, rules issues, or both? sure

18. Out of the Deck Box seems to be a fairly popular segment. Should we keep doing individual decks, or do more like comparing the two Multiplayer Discard decks? both

19. Pimp My Deckbox (we really need to pick another name for that) does really well on the forums, but we’re usually a little wary of doing this on the show. We don’t want to sound like experts telling people what to put in their decks, especially since we’re not experts and what we suggest you might not have. I’ve been thinking of doing something like this using broader strokes, but I haven’t quite figured it out yet. Do you guys have any suggestions for improvements or special requests for this? you could give its own forum...

20. And finally, let us know anything else you might want to throw out there. Suggestions for any of these segments, suggestions for future episodes, comments, criticisms, whatever you want. We want any and all feedback. kk, i love contests.... just who i am i love free things and i am sure most people do.

1. My sister's boyfriend got into magic, and by extension, she got into magic. I remembered learning about magic back if 1st grade, and I was interested in getting back into. My sister, in her fanatical stage (where she bought over 1k cards) she found out about the mana pool, and told me to listen to it. She dropped out after a couple of episodes, but I stayed on.

2. Eh, it depends on the music. The series of tubes song was really cool.

3. I think techno works better with the theme of the podcast, and it's just plain awesome.

4. The sound quality is fine.

5. I like the longer episodes better than the short ones, because when I have it on my ipod, it really eats up the time when I'm working.

6. I'd prefer it in one part, since it's faster to download, and because there is a longer time before I have to go change the track.

7. no. just plain no.

8. I think that the 4 you have right now is a good amount, since even if one person isn't talking, there are 3 others to take over.

9. On some episodes, I only get 10 minutes of the episode (ex. shadowmoor). I don't know if this is just me, but it's annoying.

10. Yeah, I like listening to your show because it also gives me new ideas for decks.

11. Reviewing old sets would be helpful, since it'd help people find cards on cardshark that they would probably not look at otherwise.

12. Honestly, I haven't actually listened to them. I'll get right on that. From the sound of it, though, it would be very helpful to new players like me who learned to play magic on a school bus.

13. Nah, it's not really that interesting. It's cool to be at the launch party, or tournament, but not so great just hearing about them.

14. Yes, it does interest me.

15. I've been meaning to read the novels, but I haven't gotten around to it. I really enjoy hearing about the flavor of the game.

16. I'll go listen to episode 15 and see how it goes.

17. Yes. This is just awesome. I never learned the finer points of the game, and I'm anxious to learn.

18. I really like the individual decks. Or maybe even decks that have a theme that no one expects.

19. I've only just glanced over it, but I'll check it and get back to it.

20. maybe talk about deals that can be got on cardshark. Not just member promotions, but like cards that are extraordinarily cheap. It sounded like a good idea when I first thought of it, but the more I type it the stupider it seems -.- . It's just an idea.
at least in the top 100 of greenest men alive.

[quote="Chewbaca X"]Okay guys, even though there’s no episode for the next two weeks due to vacation, I’ve got something to ask of you. We’re constantly trying to improve the show, but what we think is an improvement and what the listeners think is an improvement could be vastly different. And since we don’t care what we think, it’s what you think that’s important, I’ve compiled a list of questions I’d like you guys to take some time and answer for us. Treat this like one of those MySpace surveys, where you answer in a numbered list of your own. And away we go.

1. How did you first hear about the show?
MTGcast
2. Do you listen to the music in each episode?
YES. love the Picard song and the Internet is a series of tubes.
3. Should we pick a theme and go with it or keep having different music?
Crazy stuff please.
4. How is the sound quality of the show, both the music and the actual show?
Music is great. Some people might need a new mic.
5. Is the current episode length (60-75 minutes or so) good, too long, or too short?
You guys are always worried about the 4 hour show. I say bring it on. I have 1.5 hours in the car 5 days a week, if it was more than that I would complain and you guys would probly be dead.
6. What about splitting longer episodes into two parts like Episode 27? Is this a good idea or a bad one?
haven't listen to that one.
7. Would “quickie” episodes that are 20-40 minutes in length be a good idea?
if that is all you can do it is ok. I would hope for more episodes then.
8. What about number of hosts per show? If there’s only two of us, is it worth listening to? What about when we’re all there – do we seem to get in each other’s way?
I would hope for atleast 2. 3 is better. 4 is perfect. 5 is getting a bit crazy.
9. How do you feel about the length, quality, and depth of the new set preview episodes? Do we spend too long on individual cards? Do you feel like two episodes a week during preview weeks are too much?
I love the previews. I am going back now for the Alara block. I have seen the cards a few times now but it makes a big difference when you talk about them. MORE MORE MORE please
10. Would you be interested in the development of another fun theme deck, like the Clash deck? Oh yeah, we’ll be touching that one again soon too. We never actually did the Morningtide follow-up, and it bothers me professionally.
Why not. love your guys crazy idea. go go Zombie deck
11. We once picked a handful of fun rares from a set and went over them. Should we keep doing this? If so, just with new sets or should we go back to old ones too?
I like the reviews of why where these rares. do a block and each pic some.
12. We’ve done a couple of Magic Etiquette segments (what to do about that guy with just one deck, and when are proxies okay). What did you think of that? Should we keep doing etiquette questions when they occur to us, or is this just too silly?
don't know
13. We’ve done a few tournament reports too (Prereleases, Launch Parties, FNM). Does that interest you at all, or should we skip those?
I love them. love love love them. More details and notes please. I am sad that I don't go to many of them. I thought it was great when you had like 8 guys on for all of there stories.(ok maybe it wasn't 8 people.
14. We’ve done some episodes that involve the various philosophies of the game that go beyond just playing (Timmy, Johnny, Spike; Aggro, Combo, Control). Does this sort of thing interest you at all, or should we skip those?
I like them. what episodes where thoses? I need to check them out. not sure on my flavor yet.
15. We haven’t focused terribly much on the flavor of the game (flavor text, characters in the storyline, the world each set has built). Should we?
I like it. story is good. anyone can go to gatherer and look at the cards or see the spoilers. Tell a story and how you would use the cards.
16. Episode 15 was the Multiplayer Free-For-All Extravaganza, which means we played lots of games of multiplayer Magic, took notes, and told you all about them. Should we do more things like that in the future? If so, should we limit it to simple multiplayer, or should we branch out into things like Winston Draft picks and games, booster draft picks and games, and new formats or variants?
keep it all coming. (note to self need to download 15)
17. We’ve done several episodes involving tips for new players. Should we keep this up? If so, should we go more into strategy, rules issues, or both?
both
18. Out of the Deck Box seems to be a fairly popular segment. Should we keep doing individual decks, or do more like comparing the two Multiplayer Discard decks?
Both. not everyone has same or similair decks.
Do you guys have any suggestions for improvements or special requests for this?
not atm.
20. And finally, let us know anything else you might want to throw out there. Suggestions for any of these segments, suggestions for future episodes, comments, criticisms, whatever you want. We want any and all feedback.
You guys are great. What you guys have is a great thing. I hope the best for all of you and am waiting for the 3 year show.

1. How did you first hear about the show?

Looked for mtg podcasts on iTunes and found this D;

2. Do you listen to the music in each episode?

yesh

3. Should we pick a theme and go with it or keep having different music?

do what ya like o.o

4. How is the sound quality of the show, both the music and the actual show?

rly good , and loud enouth too so random noises like a car dodging me by 2 inches don't bother me

5. Is the current episode length (60-75 minutes or so) good, too long, or too short?

well, its good as is, don't make it shorter , don't care if you make it longer

6. What about splitting longer episodes into two parts like Episode 27? Is this a good idea or a bad one?

didn't listen to that one but don't split episodes , might end up being confusing

7. Would “quickie” episodes that are 20-40 minutes in length be a good idea?

no o.o

8. What about number of hosts per show? If there’s only two of us, is it worth listening to? What about when we’re all there – do we seem to get in each other’s way?

3 or more is good, 2 ell make for silences too often

9. How do you feel about the length, quality, and depth of the new set preview episodes? Do we spend too long on individual cards? Do you feel like two episodes a week during preview weeks are too much?

I like the preview episodes because you also sidetrack to older references or just random stuff o.o rather then just going into each card for 15 minutes

10. Would you be interested in the development of another fun theme deck, like the Clash deck? Oh yeah, we’ll be touching that one again soon too. We never actually did the Morningtide follow-up, and it bothers me professionally.

dnu what yer talkin about but it doesn't sound bad o.o

11. We once picked a handful of fun rares from a set and went over them. Should we keep doing this? If so, just with new sets or should we go back to old ones too?

You should then also reference decks and/or combo's made with them that were fun to play as to "inspire" listeners , or well , me at least =p

12. We’ve done a couple of Magic Etiquette segments (what to do about that guy with just one deck, and when are proxies okay). What did you think of that? Should we keep doing etiquette questions when they occur to us, or is this just too silly?

yes , do those , its nice to be able to hear others ppl thought on the ROC on the magic battleground

13. We’ve done a few tournament reports too (Prereleases, Launch Parties, FNM). Does that interest you at all, or should we skip those?

yes , do them , moving on

14. We’ve done some episodes that involve the various philosophies of the game that go beyond just playing (Timmy, Johnny, Spike; Aggro, Combo, Control). Does this sort of thing interest you at all, or should we skip those?

yes , moving on

15. We haven’t focused terribly much on the flavor of the game (flavor text, characters in the storyline, the world each set has built). Should we?

YES

16. Episode 15 was the Multiplayer Free-For-All Extravaganza, which means we played lots of games of multiplayer Magic, took notes, and told you all about them. Should we do more things like that in the future? If so, should we limit it to simple multiplayer, or should we branch out into things like Winston Draft picks and games, booster draft picks and games, and new formats or variants?

go for it , as many formats as you can =o

17. We’ve done several episodes involving tips for new players. Should we keep this up? If so, should we go more into strategy, rules issues, or both?

yes and both.

18. Out of the Deck Box seems to be a fairly popular segment. Should we keep doing individual decks, or do more like comparing the two Multiplayer Discard decks?

individual

Do you guys have any suggestions for improvements or special requests for this?

notrly

20. And finally, let us know anything else you might want to throw out there. Suggestions for any of these segments, suggestions for future episodes, comments, criticisms, whatever you want. We want any and all feedback.

the guy who keeps breaking up , brian I think ( my memory is rly bad =p ) , start a fund or something and get his shit sorted out so he can actually talk xD

1. How did you first hear about the show?
Searched for MTG podcasts and bam.

2. Do you listen to the music in each episode?
Yeah not intensively though.

3. Should we pick a theme and go with it or keep having different music?
Either ways fine.

4. How is the sound quality of the show, both the music and the actual show?
Generally its good, occasionally someone sounds a little distant but thats the persons fault most likely.

5. Is the current episode length (60-75 minutes or so) good, too long, or too short?
Don't go under 45 minutes but not over 2 hours.

6. What about splitting longer episodes into two parts like Episode 27? Is this a good idea or a bad one?
Thats fine as long as you don't end in the middle of a thought.

7. Would “quickie” episodes that are 20-40 minutes in length be a good idea?
No, to short I want my full hour of comedic magic.

8. What about number of hosts per show? If there’s only two of us, is it worth listening to? What about when we’re all there – do we seem to get in each other’s way?
Less then three would seem to quiet but more then five or six would be to chaotic.

9. How do you feel about the length, quality, and depth of the new set preview episodes? Do we spend too long on individual cards? Do you feel like two episodes a week during preview weeks are too much?
Its seems fine to me.

10. Would you be interested in the development of another fun theme deck, like the Clash deck? Oh yeah, we’ll be touching that one again soon too. We never actually did the Morningtide follow-up, and it bothers me professionally.
Sure why not.

11. We once picked a handful of fun rares from a set and went over them. Should we keep doing this? If so, just with new sets or should we go back to old ones too?
Sounds good to me, old and new.

12. We’ve done a couple of Magic Etiquette segments (what to do about that guy with just one deck, and when are proxies okay). What did you think of that? Should we keep doing etiquette questions when they occur to us, or is this just too silly?
Covering etiquette is very important and if someone has a question about it it should be answered, especially if they plan to go to a regionals or another larger tourney.

13. We’ve done a few tournament reports too (Prereleases, Launch Parties, FNM). Does that interest you at all, or should we skip those?
Always fun to hear.

14. We’ve done some episodes that involve the various philosophies of the game that go beyond just playing (Timmy, Johnny, Spike; Aggro, Combo, Control). Does this sort of thing interest you at all, or should we skip those?
Cover it, its always interesting to hear.

15. We haven’t focused terribly much on the flavor of the game (flavor text, characters in the storyline, the world each set has built). Should we?
More, backstory is good to know.

Why not just play a multiplayer game while recording.

17. We’ve done several episodes involving tips for new players. Should we keep this up? If so, should we go more into strategy, rules issues, or both?
Yes

18. Out of the Deck Box seems to be a fairly popular segment. Should we keep doing individual decks, or do more like comparing the two Multiplayer Discard decks?
Either way.

Recommendations are always good.

20. And finally, let us know anything else you might want to throw out there. Suggestions for any of these segments, suggestions for future episodes, comments, criticisms, whatever you want. We want any and all feedback.
Why not have some of the listeners talk on the show if possible, for a short time.

I think the survey may need updating to reflect the fact that you guys now clock in around 120-150 minutes (rather than 60-75).

1. I actually first heard about The Mana Pool through the Avant Card Show.
2. Yes, though I enjoy the goofy/nerdy ones. BYONES was my favorite.
3. Keep up the different music.
4. Good enough for me to keep listening.
5. Keep it organic. Talk until Bryan is done talking, then end the show. Don't arbitrarily end shows because of time limits.
6. Ehh.
7. If you feel like it.
8. (Insert supportive sentence here.)
9. I generally enjoy the preview episodes least, as I'm already reading the WOTC site, plus MTG Salvation, SCG, and Channel Fireball, and get more than my fill of previews. I really dig the pre-release story episodes, though.
10. If you feel like it. The clash deck was a lost cause to begin with, though.
11. I dig the idea of pulling a few cards out of older sets. I'm not that familiar with cards between Masques block and Ravnica block...
12. Its a good idea. Its rare to see/hear multiple perspectives on subjects like this.
13. Keep up the tournament reports! I tried to write one, but forgot to take notes...at all!
14. (This space intentionally left blank)
15. I'd rather not...unless you had Mike summarize the entire Weatherlight Saga in a specific time limit!
16. I like the Multiplayer FFAE's. You've had a few by episode 101.
17. I'm not a new player, I'm a very old player.
18. I like Out of the Deck Boxes. They give me new, evil, ideas.
19. If you feel like it.
20. Chewie should say "I'm not very smart." repeatedly in another episode. It was freakin hilarious. When I think of show Ideas, I'll post them, I promise!

Re: Mana Pool Survey!

Postby MadStorkMSU on Wed Oct 21, 2009 12:25 pm

1. How did you first hear about the show?

I first heard about The Mana Pool on the Cardshark homepage.

2. Do you listen to the music in each episode?

I typically listen to the music.

3. Should we pick a theme and go with it or keep having different music?

I like the music variety.

4. How is the sound quality of the show, both the music and the actual show?

The sound quality is fine.

5. Is the current episode length (60-75 minutes or so) good, too long, or too short?

At the time of completing this survey, the length is closer to 150 minutes, but that’s fine.

6. What about splitting longer episodes into two parts like Episode 27? Is this a good idea or a bad one?

Just keep them in a single episode.

7. Would “quickie” episodes that are 20-40 minutes in length be a good idea?

I like the current format, but additional “quickie” episodes would be cool.

8. What about number of hosts per show? If there’s only two of us, is it worth listening to? What about when we’re all there – do we seem to get in each other’s way?

I think 4 is an ideal number of hosts, though less us usually fine.

9. How do you feel about the length, quality, and depth of the new set preview episodes? Do we spend too long on individual cards? Do you feel like two episodes a week during preview weeks are too much?

Previews are cool. Since I started behind, however, the previews of, say, Shadowmoor aren’t as exciting over a year after they were released. I guess that is my fault, not yours.

10. Would you be interested in the development of another fun theme deck, like the Clash deck? Oh yeah, we’ll be touching that one again soon too. We never actually did the Morningtide follow-up, and it bothers me professionally.

Since I am a Johnny through and through, I love any discussions about deck building, especially when they are weird.

11. We once picked a handful of fun rares from a set and went over them. Should we keep doing this? If so, just with new sets or should we go back to old ones too?

I like the Binder Pull episodes.

12. We’ve done a couple of Magic Etiquette segments (what to do about that guy with just one deck, and when are proxies okay). What did you think of that? Should we keep doing etiquette questions when they occur to us, or is this just too silly?

Magic etiquette is an excellent topic and is especially awesome for new players.

13. We’ve done a few tournament reports too (Prereleases, Launch Parties, FNM). Does that interest you at all, or should we skip those?

Though I don’t frequent the events, I enjoy hearing you talk about what cards seem to play well in limited. My group does draft on occasion, so your comments can be valuable.

14. We’ve done some episodes that involve the various philosophies of the game that go beyond just playing (Timmy, Johnny, Spike; Aggro, Combo, Control). Does this sort of thing interest you at all, or should we skip those?

These episodes are some of my favorites.

15. We haven’t focused terribly much on the flavor of the game (flavor text, characters in the storyline, the world each set has built). Should we?

With Wizards’ obvious focus on flavor lately, I think it’s certainly a relevant topic. I enjoy the flavor discussions, though I am certainly not a Vorthos.

Since most of the Magic I play is in the multiplayer format, feel free to make as many of these episodes as you want. I think a discussion of the plethora of multiplayer formats may be warranted, though.

17. We’ve done several episodes involving tips for new players. Should we keep this up? If so, should we go more into strategy, rules issues, or both?

New players are what keep Magic alive, so anything that can help them is great.

18. Out of the Deck Box seems to be a fairly popular segment. Should we keep doing individual decks, or do more like comparing the two Multiplayer Discard decks?

I think a single “Out of the Deck Box” deck is a great time filler, but comparing 2 decks with the same theme is more interesting. I especially liked the “Get a Life” episode.

I understand your hesitation, especially since you might not know what format or price range is relevant to the player. I think that comments like “you might want to look into more creature removal, like Path to Exile,” or “you deck seems to lack focus, you might want to look into getting rid of one of your themes.” I certainly fall into the “deck’s lack focus” group, where I try to do too much at once. Sometimes I just need someone else to tell me, “maybe your False Cure & +1/+1 Counter deck should really just be a False Cure deck.”

20. And finally, let us know anything else you might want to throw out there. Suggestions for any of these segments, suggestions for future episodes, comments, criticisms, whatever you want. We want any and all feedback.

As I mentioned after question 16, I think it would be interesting to hear a discussion on the many multiplayer formats (sanctioned or otherwise). Since my play group can have upwards of 14 people, we have to keep in interesting (not to mention a 14 player free-for-all would take roughly 12.2 weeks to finish). Some of the formats we play are:

1. Attack Left/Right - You can only attack the player to your left/right (we typically plat Attack Right) and have a range of one (all spells you cast can only effect the players to your immediate left/right).
2. Star - Five player format where the players to your immediate left/right are your teammates and the other two are your opponents. Game is over whenever a player kills both of their opponents.
3. Emperor - I think everyone knows this one. We have had to make it so that the emperor is chosen at random, because some decks are nearly unbeatable (see Chewie’s Poison Deck) when played by an Emperor. We didn’t want a player to select a deck for the purpose of playing as the emperor, especially considering those decks tend to be weak when played by a “wing.”
4. Silent Assassin - Each player has 2 opponents (that are unknown to all but the player) that are chosen at random (we usually use playing cards to select opponents). Once a player kills both opponents, the game is over.
5. Zombie - Whenever a player dies, they shuffle-up and restart as a minion to the player that killed them. This really only works with a lot of players.
6. Two-Headed Giant - I think everyone knows this one. We will also play with more than two teams and have even tried Three-Headed Giant.

Keep up the good work guys!
Current format - Extremely casual vintage multiplayer

Favorite Deck - Life to Lifeless (False Cure)
*Made before the "Get a Life" challenge*

Most Powerful Deck - Rise Kokusho (Reanimator)

1. How did you first hear about the show?
-My brother first started listening to you blokes and told me to, so I did.
2. Do you listen to the music in each episode?
-Most... I hate the metal songs, but thats about it.
3. Should we pick a theme and go with it or keep having different music?
-Different = most goodly
4. How is the sound quality of the show, both the music and the actual show?
-No complaints.
5. Is the current episode length (60-75 minutes or so) good, too long, or too short?
-Long is good... the longer the better.
6. What about splitting longer episodes into two parts like Episode 27? Is this a good idea or a bad one?
-Nah... Long is good
7. Would “quickie” episodes that are 20-40 minutes in length be a good idea?
-I feel I'm repeating myself :-p
8. What about number of hosts per show? If there’s only two of us, is it worth listening to? What about when we’re all there – do we seem to get in each other’s way?
It's better when more of you are on, as it seems more chaotic and funny.
9. How do you feel about the length, quality, and depth of the new set preview episodes? Do we spend too long on individual cards? Do you feel like two episodes a week during preview weeks are too much?
-two episodes a week is great. When you go in depth its usefull to see different perspectives of how it works.
10. Would you be interested in the development of another fun theme deck, like the Clash deck? Oh yeah, we’ll be touching that one again soon too. We never actually did the Morningtide follow-up, and it bothers me professionally.
-The funner the better
11. We once picked a handful of fun rares from a set and went over them. Should we keep doing this? If so, just with new sets or should we go back to old ones too?
-If its funny and content filled I like whatever you boys do.
12. We’ve done a couple of Magic Etiquette segments (what to do about that guy with just one deck, and when are proxies okay). What did you think of that? Should we keep doing etiquette questions when they occur to us, or is this just too silly?
-Some of the situations you boys (Chewie) talk about are quite amusing. I also has various douches at my shop.
13. We’ve done a few tournament reports too (Prereleases, Launch Parties, FNM). Does that interest you at all, or should we skip those?
-Prerelease and launch stories are awesome.
14. We’ve done some episodes that involve the various philosophies of the game that go beyond just playing (Timmy, Johnny, Spike; Aggro, Combo, Control). Does this sort of thing interest you at all, or should we skip those?
-Not as interesting as some of your other stuff.
15. We haven’t focused terribly much on the flavor of the game (flavor text, characters in the storyline, the world each set has built). Should we?
-Nah, sorl good.
-All good
17. We’ve done several episodes involving tips for new players. Should we keep this up? If so, should we go more into strategy, rules issues, or both?
-Keep with the noobs, I don't mind.
18. Out of the Deck Box seems to be a fairly popular segment. Should we keep doing individual decks, or do more like comparing the two Multiplayer Discard decks?
-Comparing is good.
-I would take you word for it :-/
20. And finally, let us know anything else you might want to throw out there. Suggestions for any of these segments, suggestions for future episodes, comments, criticisms, whatever you want. We want any and all feedback.
-You blokes can't seem to do anything wrong. Most things you talk about seem to amuse me, so all is good on that front. Just keep up the good work or talking or rambling or whatever it is. I just like it.

Re: Mana Pool Survey!

Postby TonyRoomZ on Tue Nov 17, 2009 3:06 pm

Sure the post is like over a year old, but the questions are still fun and worth answering.....

*1. How did you first hear about the show?

When I was looking for podcasts many eons ago.

*2. Do you listen to the music in each episode?

I listen to everything in the episode... So yes.

*3. Should we pick a theme and go with it or keep having different music?

Variety is the spice of life... and he who controls the spice controls the universe... and what not... so... I guess... keep switching it up.

*4. How is the sound quality of the show, both the music and the actual show?

I think the show sounds great. No annoying mircophone buzzes that make you want to CARDSHARK.COM someone... WHAT? I can't type CARDSHARK.COM in my own CARDSHARK.COM post? CARDSHARK.COM!!!

*5. Is the current episode length (60-75 minutes or so) good, too long, or too short?

Some days I think the episodes are too long.. some days I think they are too short... I think this probably means you guys have it just right.

*6. What about splitting longer episodes into two parts like Episode 27? Is this a good idea or a bad one?

I don't think it matters when you can seek to times in a episode. My problem with show length revolves around remembering where I was when I stopped.

*7. Would “quickie” episodes that are 20-40 minutes in length be a good idea?

Is 20 minutes really quick? *shrug* I honestly don't know.. Try it... we are pretty good at letting you know about bad ideas.

*8. What about number of hosts per show? If there’s only two of us, is it worth listening to? What about when we’re all there – do we seem to get in each other’s way?

I think the number of hosts is good.. I like having multiple opinions and personalities. You don't seem to get in each other's way much... If anything you complement each other.

*9. How do you feel about the length, quality, and depth of the new set preview episodes? Do we spend too long on individual cards? Do you feel like two episodes a week during preview weeks are too much?

I think they sometimes feel long, but that is only when I have no interest in the card :) But for the most part they seem great to me. If you really want the length to feel long don't do 2 episodes, but I might lose my mind if you did a 4 hour episode on a new set.

*10. Would you be interested in the development of another fun theme deck, like the Clash deck? Oh yeah, we’ll be touching that one again soon too. We never actually did the Morningtide follow-up, and it bothers me professionally.

I always like theme decks, so sure.

*11. We once picked a handful of fun rares from a set and went over them. Should we keep doing this? If so, just with new sets or should we go back to old ones too?

Yes... and Yes. Doing something with old rares is always fun.

*12. We’ve done a couple of Magic Etiquette segments (what to do about that guy with just one deck, and when are proxies okay). What did you think of that? Should we keep doing etiquette questions when they occur to us, or is this just too silly?

Given the general silliness that occurs in the show, is asking if something too silly even appropriate? But yes.. talking about Magic Etiquette is cool. I would extend it to include more interesting "house rules". Like my friends added "Cumulative Upkeep - Each opponent Slaps you" to Stasis.

*13. We’ve done a few tournament reports too (Prereleases, Launch Parties, FNM). Does that interest you at all, or should we skip those?

Any experiences you guys have felt worth sharing about playing Magic have always been interesting. I don't see a problem with them. If you are looking to save time I would skip FNMs.

*14. We’ve done some episodes that involve the various philosophies of the game that go beyond just playing (Timmy, Johnny, Spike; Aggro, Combo, Control). Does this sort of thing interest you at all, or should we skip those?

I love discussions about the great Aggro/Combo/Control. It is a rock scissors paper argument, but still fun :)

*15. We haven’t focused terribly much on the flavor of the game (flavor text, characters in the storyline, the world each set has built). Should we?

While you haven't focused specifically on flavor and back-story of the characters in the Magic multi-verse I do think you spend a nice time commenting on the artwork. This is an aspect that is often overlooked when flavor is discussed elsewhere. I don't know if you want to really delve into this too much unless you wanted to add a "Stories from Grandpa" type segment where you spend 10 minutes telling a small story about a Planeswalker... e.g.. Urza or Crovax. That type of segment has potential for not only information, but your unique senses of humor....

It was a great thing. I would personally steer clear of drafting because there are far too many articles and shows on that. Now if you wanted to look at strange variants.. Oh heck ya. I'd be down with that in a heartbeat. Maybe split the difference and only look at Multiplayer variants.

*17. We’ve done several episodes involving tips for new players. Should we keep this up? If so, should we go more into strategy, rules issues, or both?

Tips are tips... Old players sometimes forget the things that new players stumble on. It is nice to be reminded of these issues you guys have with teaching new players and it helps me teach people.

*18. Out of the Deck Box seems to be a fairly popular segment. Should we keep doing individual decks, or do more like comparing the two Multiplayer Discard decks?

Can I pick both? I like both takes on it :)

It is almost impossible to do this on a segment... You don't know what they have and you can start Holy Wars on card choices. I have no advice here. Maybe it is something you do only in the forum for awhile and if one forum thread comes out with awesome results... Well.. bring it on the show and talk about it.

*20. And finally, let us know anything else you might want to throw out there. Suggestions for any of these segments, suggestions for future episodes, comments, criticisms, whatever you want. We want any and all feedback.

I have no feedback other than what is about so far... As I catch up... (still about 4 weeks behind) I'll be sure to shoot you guys an email or another post. Keep up the good work.. I enjoy listening.
