Episode 104 - PTQ Results, Duel Decks, and Olive Oil

Postby Chewbaca X on Sat Oct 31, 2009 8:01 pm

In this episode, Mike gets distracted by something early on. But that's not the actual content of the show! Brian and I kick it off by each opening a pack of Zendikar and going through the contents. Then we switch gears and talk about Brian's PTQ experience from a few weekends ago. He did really well. His deck list is in the forum thread for this episode, give it a look and let us know what you think.

And of course, we had to go over the freshly released lists for Duel Decks: Garruk vs. Liliana. Rancor! Mutilate! Beasts! Yay! We go over each list, giving a pretty detailed rundown on how we think each one will work. Then of course we have to pick a winner. Keep listening to find out who we thought might come out ahead this time.

Pretty solid deck. I note a slight snake subtheme. And it's pretty bomberific.

I'm part of the Ministry of Silly Walks.

Curse your pop culture references!

Ooo, yeah, you guys really should go back and do another flavor episode. I loved that episode! And more multiplayer formats. Like Magic the RPG.

And you guys need to complete the duel decks contest.

I love hitting you guys on the forums! *punches Chewie*

Brian's white splash seems a little...small. I mean he didn't seem to have enough lands to support it.

I'M IN THAT SONG!

Woo! Finally!

I think Garruk is going to win.

-Yay for finally hearing back about the Duel Decks contest! I can't wait to see what other people came up with. Gotta love Chewie's "Definitely next week. Ooooorrr... maybe in two weeks."

-The Garruk and Liliana decks are quite sick. Especially the Garruk deck. Mike's comment on green decks with 2 Rancors making him want to punch people in the face cracked me up at work.

-As far as the Stomphowlers go, you could just target your Rancor and return it.

-And I'm pretty sure the rest of the dorks definitely said the Merfolk Wayfinder sucked last episode while Mike was speaking in favor of it. I agree with Brian and Chewie in that regard.

Great episode just one note on Indrik Stomphowler, I think it's main purpose is to allow you to destroy Rancor then bring it back to your hand to throw another creature. Thus, allowing you to play it early without having to smoke the creature to get Rancor onto a bigger dude.

I can't wait to pick up the Garruk vs. Liliana decks, they look great. I could certainly use another copy of Garruk for my beast deck (I finally got my Xbox promo in the mail).

The Symphony of Science is incredible, by the way. I've always loved physics/astronomy, and listening to Carl Sagan in these clips has inspired me to revisit Cosmos.
Current format - Extremely casual vintage multiplayer

Favorite Deck - Life to Lifeless (False Cure)
*Made before the "Get a Life" challenge*

Most Powerful Deck - Rise Kokusho (Reanimator)

FYI guys, the dork was the Blue Ranger because the nerdiest of Magic players refuse to not play blue.

Refuse... to not? *English Major head explodes from double negative*

You mean they always play blue, correct?

I would normally say "always" play blue, but I think "refuse to not" feels more appropriate for a color associated with counterspells and crazy stack interactions.

Having actually listened to the episode now, I'd like to point out that yes, Arkham Asylum is worth the hype and I really hope the team gets back together and makes another game. I've enjoyed it on my PS3, though if you lack both Xbox 360 and PS3, you can still get it on your PC.
