Brian here, yet again. This episode sees the cast of The Mana Pool, with the long-awaited return of Dirk, finally getting to a subject we’ve been approaching for weeks: multiplayer combat! Hold on to your hardhats, because here we...uh...wait. Our plans, apparently more fragile than a Faberge Egg, have been broken in half by the launch of the Magic 2010 page on the main Magic website, complete with visual spoiler. Yay for previews!

The episode kicks off with a shout-out to the new members on the forums and to the Facebook group. Welcome all. Then, we go into some responses on the forums to our last few episodes. Feedback is always appreciated and actually does help us when we record the shows. Disagree with us about a point we make, think that Dirk is the funniest man alive, or catch us on a blatant error? Head to the forums! We then follow up on some reactions to the Magic 2010 rules changes, including Dirk’s first impressions, and the results of the first games Chewie and I have played under the new rules. Chewie and Dirk have also been playing Duels of the Planeswalkers recently and briefly share their experiences.

After that, it’s on to Magic 2010 previews! Join us as we walk down a sort of memory lane with standbys like Serra Angel (now Uncommon!), Clone, and Birds of Paradise. We’ll also see old faces seeing new life like Black Knight (aww yeah), Ball Lightning, and Lightning Bolt (the one and only). Finally, since Magic 2010 is the first Core Set since Beta with new cards in it, we have new favorites like Child of Night, new duel lands, and Ant Queen. Do your exterminators have captains? They better.

Finally, we’ve got some news. I’d tell you what it is, but you need to listen to find out. No cutting in line! All I’ll say is, oh wait, you have to listen! Ha. Finally finally, we quickly hit the recent Banned/Restricted List announcements and Magic shoes. Not magic shoes (Like Mike), Magic Shoes. They are NOT guaranteed to make you into a basketball legend.

Thanks for listening to The Mana Pool as always, and get ready for some goodness in Magic 2010.

LIGHTNING BOLT!

So i am sorry for not clarifying the whole deployment ordeal....here it is. I got back from my first deployment from iraq and that is when my buddy got me in the tourney scene, I was home for the timespiral block, lorwyn and for the pre-release of morningtide, then i got deployed for a second time to iraq during the shadowmoor block, shards and conflux. so I have been back in the states for 3 months now and have moved to Colorado Springs CO , also as I forgot to mention I am in the U.S. Army (active duty) if any of you were wondering. The base in Japan is a Naval and Marine base, in which the marine unit there is not allowed to bring there unit colors(flag) back to the U.S. due to a surrender back in WW2.

Great show, as usual. I was disappointed at the lack of mention of me in the show. *ahemhemhem* Right.

M10's looking interesting.

New Contest! I'm going to enjoy this.

I also really enjoyed this episode. I like it when your podcasts are long and meaty... err... I mean I like to feel satisfied after listening to a show... Damnit, I mean I like big podcasts! (Wait, that isn't right either). In all seriousness, I really enjoyed this episode. HELLDOZER! (The medical condition).

Chewie, Brian, Mike and Dirk:
Love the show. I have just started getting back into magic again via Alara Reborn. Long time player of LotR/SW/ST/Magic (casually). I had been on a sort of card playing hiatus (due to the fact that the LotR tcg died), but I am now ready to play some cards once more.

I decided to browse cardshark for some cards to finish off some decks and noticed your podcast. From there, I went back in your archives. Awesome. Funny. Informative. Those are the words I would use to describe your show. Magic content or no, I love listening to what you guys hafta say. I also especially liked the episode where Chewie (Jund Aggro) and Brian (Finest Hour) were playing against one another in prep for FNM and the PTQ. I know you guys were unsure of that episode, but it was a hit with me.

A couple odds and ends:
1. I, like some of you guys on the show, live in North Carolina. Maybe I'll meet you at a tourney some day ;)
2. Brian, has anyone ever told you that you kinda sound like James Woods? lol Maybe its just me.
3. Love the spontaneity of the show.
4. I'm running homebrew Bant (Alas, I don't have the cash for a playset of Rafiqs).
5. Love the duration. Never shorten it. Dirk, stay up late plzkthxbai :)
6. Thank you guys for doing what you do. I'll be listening as long as your recording.

Thanks again, guys!
Dethwish (Casey Knott)

P.S. Sorry for being long-winded.

Brian's points on the M10 rules with the new player are right on. They were points that I wanted to bring up myself but have not had the oportunity to do so after I crystalized my thoughts after some reflection. Well played sir!

Edit out later Wall of Bone. LOL! Then you follow it up with "It's been around." You guys kill me.

I like the contest. I plan on entering but we'll see how succesfull I am at aranging time.

That was the quickest final thoughts EVER!!

Keep up the great shows.

-Darn it, I need to listen to Chewie’s guest appearance on the Avant Card Show. I’m finally getting to this one a week after it was posted so of course I’ll get around to that episode in a month. :-P

-I had a deck with Jinxed Choker with things that kept me from being the target of spells/abilities. I ran it a few times in some multiplayer games with the dorks, but it just wasn’t a fun deck for me to play with.

-I agree with Brian that you shouldn’t apologize for saying what’s on your mind about the whole “Pro” thing, Chewie. Other people said what they felt, why shouldn’t you?

-Duel of the Planeswalkers is awesome. Chewie and I just rolled through it on the 2-Headed Giant games (which we briefly mentioned when I recorded episode 89 with the guys). When I get more free time, I’ll keep going with the one-on-one games so I can raise my ranking. I was in the 600s when I stopped playing the other day.

-Sorry you didn’t get to play against the Pros, Chewie! I was also sad that I didn’t get a chance to hop in on that too, but playing with you dorks was more important for me.

-That’s interesting about the Serra Angel being uncommon. And I did not know (or just forgot) that she used to be uncommon WAY back in the day.

-I love the flavor behind the Undead Slayer. What’s better though would be to play with stuff like the Imagecrafter and make any of your opponent’s creatures into Vampires and then exile them. Yummy.

-The Siege-Gang Commander is still good, especially with the new Goblin lord. I know it loses some of the trickiness, but it’s still a great card that I’d take if I could.

-I LOVE the Ant Queen. I have an Insect tribal deck somewhere that used lots of Insect token generators with the unblockable artifact insect and an Alpha Status on it. And on top of the ability, like Chewie said, it’s a 5/5 for 5! Woot!

-I wasn’t going to comment on Lightning Bolt because it’s so awesome that it speaks for itself, but I liked the dialogue about its place in the curve and the implications for the new curve of creature toughness.

-The Vampire Nocturnus is really pretty. And the ability is really good because most vampires are black so your top card is very likely to be black.

-And with the Werewolf idea, the Werewolves should be indestructible unless dealt damage by a colorless source, like artifacts. Yay silver bullets!
